Can electropolishing improve the corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel?

Conducted studies show that electropolishing is an effective process to improve the corrosion resistance of steels within the 316L group.

According to these studies, the corrosion rate decreases by 58-78% and the resistance against pitting corrosion improves by 85-91%.

The passive layer of the stainless steel formed during electropolishing is 50-120% thicker than the natural formed layer.

Also, the Cr/Fe ratio increases after electropolishing which is important for the corrosion resistance.
